ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT

Month 1: Project Kickoff and Community Dialogue

We launched FEMME with school visits, teacher roundtables, and student focus groups. A needs assessment survey was distributed across participating schools to understand current menstrual hygiene practices, existing gaps, and student perceptions. Social media and school bulletin boards announced the project. This laid the groundwork for transparency and inclusion, establishing an open channel with the community.

Month 2: FEMME Workshop & Training Sessions

A 2-day intensive workshop was organized in five schools, featuring hands-on learning and role-play on menstrual hygiene, puberty education, product usage, and disposal practices. Sessions were split for students and educators to promote confidence and responsibility. Teachers learned how to support menstruating students and reduce absenteeism, while students engaged in interactive product demos and myth-busting activities.

Month 3: FEMME Hygiene Kit Distribution

Each participating girl received a FEMME hygiene kit, containing eco-friendly pads, biodegradable disposal bags, underwear, soap, and a multilingual menstrual guide. School staff were trained to manage and resupply kits, ensuring product availability throughout the school year. Discussions were initiated on establishing dedicated ‘FEMME Corners’ in school bathrooms for continuous access.

Month 4: Peer Support Circle Formation

Older students were trained as FEMME Ambassadors and formed peer-led circles within schools. These circles serve as safe spaces for sharing stories, discussing concerns, and providing first-line support to peers. Monthly meetings included guided topics, storytelling activities, and mental health check-ins.

Month 5: Health Education & Medical Access Day

Doctors and adolescent health nurses visited schools for workshops on reproductive anatomy, hormone cycles, menstrual disorders, and when to seek help. Students submitted anonymous questions, which were answered during Q&A sessions. Health check-ups were offered in a mobile clinic unit in collaboration with local health centers.

Month 6: Nutrition, Exercise & Menstrual Wellness

A health coach led group sessions about dietary and physical activity tips during menstruation. Students learned how proper hydration, iron-rich foods, and stretching exercises can reduce cramps and mood swings. Printed infographics were created and shared for classroom display.

Month 7: School Sanitation and Facility Audits

FEMME teams conducted bathroom inspections using a standardized checklist. Issues like lack of disposal bins, poor water supply, and no privacy were reported. The data was compiled and submitted to local school boards along with suggested low-cost upgrades. Awareness posters were installed near school toilets.

Month 8: FEMME Awareness Day Celebration

Each school hosted a FEMME Awareness Day filled with student performances, informative games, a ‘Pad Relay’ competition, and speeches from guest advocates. An exhibition showcased artwork, quotes, and posters created by students during earlier workshops. Local media covered the events to amplify visibility.

Month 9: Art as Advocacy

An open call for art, poetry, and comics around the theme ‘My Period, My Power’ was made to students. Selected pieces were displayed at a public town gallery. Each submission came with a reflection note about the personal experience behind the art. This activity reinforced creativity and expression as tools of empowerment.

Month 11: Parental Inclusion Workshop

FEMME hosted workshops for parents on how to support their daughters during menstruation. Topics included mood swings, privacy, and sustainable product use. Interactive role-play activities helped reduce discomfort around talking about periods at home. Parents left with handbooks and resources for future reference.

Month 12: Training Manual & Sustainability Toolkit

The project culminated in the development of a detailed training manual and toolkit, including lesson plans, awareness activity guides, printable hygiene logs, and MHM advocacy templates. The toolkit was distributed digitally and physically to schools and local stakeholders to ensure continued use and replication.
